8/6 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (62-47) beat Lehigh Valley (54-57) 6-0: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks shutout Lehigh Valley (Phillies) by a 6-0 score. The win ups the 1st place Yankees record to 62-47. They hold a 5 game lead in the International League North division over Syracuse.

PITCHING: Russ Ortiz made his SWB debut in this game. He was recently signed to a minor league deal by the Yankees. He threw 6 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits, with 3 strikeouts, and 3 walks. He was a little rusty early in the game, but pitched very well considering he hadn't pitched in awhile. In the 1st inning, he walked the first man he faced. The runner moved up to 2nd on a wild pitch, but Ortiz got a strikeout and 2 groundouts to get out of the inning. He worked in and out of trouble again in the 2nd inning after giving up 2 singles and a balk, stranding runners on 1st and 3rd. Ortiz threw a scoreless 3rd allowing a walk. He tossed a perfect 4th inning, picking up his 2nd strikeout. He kept the scoreless string going in the 5th after allowing a double. A runner reached in the 6th on an error by Ramiro Pena, but was stranded. Ortiz picked up the win (1-0).

Mike Dunn came on to pitch a perfect 7th and 8th innings, picking up 2 strikeouts.

Edwar Ramirez pitched a scoreless 9th inning giving up a single and double, with 2 strikeouts.

OFFENSE: SWB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd when Shelley Duncan and Juan Miranda singled, with John Rodriguez getting a walk to load the bases. Chris Stewart came thru with a RBI single. In the 3rd, Ramiro Pena doubled, Austin Jackson followed with a rbi single and stolen base (21). Juan Miranda drove in Jackson with a RBI double. Yurendell de Caster followed with a RBI double to score Miranda to give SWB a 4-0 lead. The Yanks picked up a solo run in the 4th when Stewart doubled, and Pena had an RBI single to up the lead to 5-0. The Yanks added another run in the 8th when de Caster doubled and Colin Curtis had a RBI single, to make it 6-0.

NOTES: Francisco Cervelli placed on the DL with a sore left hand, replaced by free agent Brian Peterson. ... Kevin Russo returned to the lineup after missing some time with a sore knee.
