WP - Junichi Tazawa (2-2)
LP - A.J. Burnett (10-7)

Just awful. Not even 24 hours since the Yankees destroyed the Red Sox 20-11 last night, Boston came back today and knocked around A.J. Burnett and the bullpen as the Yankees lost big time, 14-1.

One game after pounding out 20 runs on 23 hits, the Yankees bats were awfully silent today as they left 10 men on base and went 0-8 with RISP. The only run that was scored was from Nick Swisher's solo home run in the seventh.

A.J. Burnett allowed a career-high nine runs today in five innings, allowing three home runs, (1 each by Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz, and Alex Gonzalez) walking two and striking out six. His velocity was up as he threw 94 or harder, but the Red Sox offense was too much for the $85 million man.

Alfredo Aceves pitched the 6th and 7th and struggled again. He allowed three runs on three hits, one of them being a two-run homer from Kevin Youkilis, his 2nd of the game. David Robertson pitched the last 2 innings and allowed two more runs. Just a horrible day for the Yankee pitching staff.

You probably would have thought coming into this one that the Yanks had the edge in the pitching matchup, but I guess that's why baseball isn't played on paper. A bad day for both the pitching and offense. They really didn't look like the Yankees we've been used to seeing so far this season. The loss now cuts the Yankees' lead to 6.5 games, but the Yanks have a chance to build that lead back up to 7.5 games tomorrow with CC Sabathia on the hill against Josh Beckett. This looks like it may be a great pitching's duel, and the Yanks will really need to capitlize with runners on base, because they may not have too many of them. Let's forget about this game and hope for a win tomorrow. Go Yanks!

I hope they win tomorrow. GO YANKS!!!

Yea Karen, this one didn't make any Yankees fan feel too good. Hopefully CC shows up, unlike Mr. Burnett.

Let's not forget that the Yanks have lost seven out of eight at Fenway so far this season, which doesn't bode well if and when we meet the Sox again in the playoffs.

I totally agree Bruce. I want absolutely nothing to do with Boston in the playoffs. I'm sorry Yankees fans, but I cannot see the Yanks winning a seven game series against a team with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester pitching at least four of those games.

Boy I sure do hate when the game is on ESPN. Me and my boys are stuck here in beantown with nothing to do til 6. Anyone ever been here and have a spot where they like to kill time?

Spot on, Greg. That's why, despite a six-and-a-half game lead, it's important for the Yanks and CC to make a statement against Beckett tonight.

Yep.

I'm sorry I didn't post the summary earlier, there was something wrong and Greg ended up fixing it. Thanks.
