Mike Ashmore is reporting that Damon Oppenheimer has confirmed that Dellin Betances underwent Tommy John surgery a few days ago and is now rehabbing down in Tampa.
This is what happens when you consistently draft high-risk, high-reward guys. It comes with the territory. Luckily, he's still very young and the surgery is usually successful.
In 11 starts for High-A Tampa, he went 2-5, with a 5.48 ERA. In 44.1 IP, he allowed 27 ER on 48 H, walked 27 and struck out 44. See you in 2011.

His upside is very high and getting Tommy John surgery now will hopefully get him on track to a healthier career.
Agreed.
Geez, he won't be in the Majors until he was 25!
