Big Series Coming Up For Those Hated Red Sox

While the Yanks are on the west coast to take on the Mariners and A's the Red Sox have a big three-game series in Arlington against the Rangers. Coming into the opener the Red Sox have just a half-game lead on the Rangers in the wild card and the Rangers have won five of the six games against Boston this season.

This could potentially be a devastating series for Boston, who will be sending Jon Lester, and then Brad Penny and Junichi Tazawa to the mound for the final two games.

Remember, that after this series the Yankees head to Oakland to face the last place A's and the Red Sox then travel to Toronto to face Roy Halladay and Ricky Romero in the three-game set in the Rogers Centre. Then the Yanks and Sox will face off in a three-game series in Fenway. A series the Yankees will hopefully use to bury the Sox.

I said before the Jays series that if the Yanks could go into Boston with a lead above eight games they could pretty much seal the division with a good series, and that remains true. The key for the Yankees will be this weekend's starts by Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre. The Yanks need solid efforts from both of those guys if they want to do some damage before heading to Beantown. So let's go Rangers, and let's go Blue Jays!

What do you guys see the Red Sox doing in these next six big games?

Realistically I could see the Sox losing 4 of the next 6. Texas will be playing with a ton of confidence seeing as how they've beaten the Red Sox all this year and know that their possible playoff position depends on this series. Meanwhile we can continue to cruise while they have to face Toronto and worry about us coming up to Fenway.

I agree that the Gaudin and Mitre starts will be important. They both need to give the Yanks some innings and a chance to win.

It would be sweet to pick up a few games in the next week heading into Boston and then beat them at least 2 out of 3.

By the way, if the Boston schedule doesn't get rained out in Texas, the Yanks should face Penny, Tazawa and Beckett.

The Yanks should have Pettitte, Burnett and Sabathia lined up for the 3 games.

CF, that's even more of a reason for the Yanks to go into Fenway and bury those fools.

Michael Kay just said that Joba's start has been moved back again and he'll pitch now on Sunday against the Sox. So who's gonna pitch Wed?

Greg Cohen said...

Where did Kay say that?

So joba isnt going to be pitching for like 2 weeks, no way. Maybe they meant moved up and pitching this Sunday.

Emmanuel said...

He just said it on his ESPN show but I don't think he made a mistake. He clearly said Joba will now pitch Sunday against the Red Sox.

Kay just said Joba was pitching Sunday against Seattle and then Sunday against the red sox.

The Red Sox will fail miserably

So I was right.

Doesn't make much sense, because then Sabathia can't pitch Sunday against the Sox and would pitch Monday instead. If anything, it should be Joba on Sunday against the Mariners and then have him open up the series on Friday against the Sox, followed by AJ,and CC.
