News & Notes

- The Yanks are 24-8 since the All-Star break, they've won 37 of their last 50, and at 75-45 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 7 games in the AL East.

- Chad Gaudin hasn't faced the A's since 2005, but in three relief appearances prior to that he's 0-1, with a 27.00 ERA. In 2.1 innings he allowed 7 runs on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

- In two career starts against the Yankees - both this season - Brett Anderson is 0-1, with a 6.75 ERA. In 12 innings he's allowed 9 runs on 18 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9.

- According to Peter Abraham, Joba Chamberlain threw an extended bullpen today and will throw in the pen again Friday and Sunday before his next start against the Rangers on Tuesday. Joba was also told that he will make six more starts this season, though the dates of those starts were no revealed.

And here's a quote from Joba, also from Pete Abe:

"We sat down and figured out a plan that works for both of us as far as keeping it as regular as possible. It gives my arm the rest that this whole thing is for, so it all worked out great," he said. "Mentally, for me to know that this is the plan for the rest of the year, it’s definitely calming."

- Mariano Rivera has converted 35-of-36 save opportunities this season. He's converted 31 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors.

- The Yankees have won six of the eight games against the A's this season.

- At 34-27 the Yankees have the second best road record in the AL. The Angels are first at 36-23.

Throw a GD STRIKE!!!

It wasn't pretty but he got out of the inning.

Nice Job Chad!

crossfire said...

Gaudin looked good in the second, striking out the side. Four strike outs so far in two innings

bigb said...

Nice Play Johnny!!!

bigb said...

Keep it up Chad!

bigb said...

ITS A TEIX MESSAGE!!!

crossfire said...

Teix does it again!

bigb said...

Not bad chad! Lets keep it up for two more innings.

Hey people.. been a little busy for the last few hours. Nice game going on for the Yanks so far. Gaudin has been a pleasant surprise.

Very pissed at the stink Halladay threw tonight. I'm getting happier and happier everyday that he's not a Yankee.

Hope that mistake doesn't bite them in the ass.

my wife has nicknamed aceves "fettucini" LOL, nice, perfect 1 pitch 2 outs, beautiful

bigb said...

NICE JOB ALFREDO!!!

Greg Cohen said...

lol Mario, why fettucini?

bigb said...

SOAB!!!

crossfire said...

Fettucini Alfredo. LOL

Great job to get us out of the 5th. Like to see us get a few runs here.

Greg Cohen said...

lol... ahhh that makes sense.

Greg Cohen said...

Once again Aceves hasn't done the job. Yes he got out of that fifth inning jam. But a 3-0 lead is now 3-2. Not good.

crossfire said...

Nice job by Coke.

Now lets get that run back and a few more.

bigb said...

Now lets pad the lead a little.

Greg Cohen said...

Yes, a few runs here would be huge. Oakland's got the momentum right now.

Girardi should of used Bruney in the 7th. I dont understand why he was even warming up. Aceves has been shakey lately. Girardi seemed unsure what he wanted to do that inning.

Greg Cohen said...

Leadoff walk for Hughes. This game has loss written all over it.

Greg Cohen said...

Where the hell did that pitch miss?

Greg Cohen said...

Two on and nobody out for Oakland now.

crossfire said...

Way to get out of that Phil!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yea Hughes.

Greg Cohen said...

Wow, Hughes got out of it. Good job!

bigb said...

Not pretty but Phil gets it done.

crossfire said...

How many errors has Teix saved this year? He has been worth every penny.

Greg Cohen said...

See that's why UZR stinks as a stat for first baseman. They don't take scooping balls into account and that's a huge part of the first baseman's job.

Where did the offense go?

What does UZR stand for?

-------------------------

YOur right UZR is a really good stat for evaluating outfielders. But what makes Teixeira a great firstbasemen is that he great at picking balls in the dirt. And has a strong and accurate arm. UZR is correct though he doesn't have great range but range is not really a big deal when evaluating a firstbasemen.

Yanks win!!!

Greg Cohen said...

Thank you Mo. Nice and easy for the greatest ever.

I really didn't think they'd pull that one out. Good job.

BALL GAME OVER...YANKEES WIN, THEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!

Yea CF.

Funny Greg, I had an uneasy feeling about the game too. Now a nice day off before the series against the red sox.

Greg Cohen said...

I hate games when the Yanks take an early lead and slowly give the game away. That was a terrible problem last year, and thankfully that sickness has avoided this team. But I just didn't feel good about the game. Thrilled to be wrong.

Yeah this game had late inning loss written all over it. Yanks escaped tonight with a win. Way too many walks tonight they are lucky they didn't get burned.
