Very nice start for Burnett. 12 pitches, 11 strikes, 2 K's in the first.

dan said...

wow, Burnett is dealing. today could be a special day, the Rangers havent hit the ball hard once so far today..

damn, that should have been a strike to Hamilton on that 2-2 pitch

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, he's got great stuff, he's just missing his spots a bit this inning, but still fantastic start for Burnett.

Greg Cohen said...

Well, spoke too soon again, there goes the no-no, the shutout, and the lead.

dan said...

oh well, he looked like he had something going, but those damn walks will kill ya

And this is why A.J. Burnett will get killed in the playoffs. No matter how good his stuff is he walks too many people, and then one mistake like that will kill you.

Greg Cohen said...

Yup Dan, it's always the walks.

Greg Cohen said...

Anon, you could be right. I hope not, but you could be.

I'm right, trust me.

97 RBI for the Yankees first baseman and counting.

Burnett has 10 Ks, pitching a 1 hitter and we're losing? This cannot stand!

Greg Cohen said...

And the Rangers have walked 7 Yankees.

Karen said...

aw a walk :(

Karen said...

GO JETER!!!!

Greg Cohen said...

What a terrible performance so far by the offense, well besides Tex.

Karen said...

yeah i hope they get 'em back.

Karen said...

Greg Cohen said...

That should just about do it for today. 6-2 Rangers on Davis' 3-run homer.

When you're basically working with three starting pitchers, one part-time pitcher and a pretty crap fifth starter, you need to win when your No. 2 is on the mound. Today's events are not pretty, although I have to say Texas is a pretty good team. It will be interesting to see whether we can bounce back against the White Sox, who are likely to be coming into the Stadium on the back of a four-game sweep in Boston.

Burnett was fine today. He could of won this game and the oakland game. Offense didn't show up before Coke put the game out of reach.

Danny said...

This is not Burnett's fault, he struck out 12. This was a Girardi production pulling a good performer out in the 6th because of a pitch count.

Girardi managed very poorly this series. He killed us the other night with the bunt (for no good reason) and he killed us today by bringing in Coke, when Coke pitched yesterday in a meaningless game. Girardi will be the downfall. He makes too many poor decisions. And, Cashman hasn't fixed the ailments on this team. He pretty much neglected them because of his pride.

Joba and Pettitte are not trustworthy, and Burnett walks too many people coupled with this organizations love for a catcher who is terrible. That spells doom in the playoffs.
