News & Notes

- The Yanks are 29-11 since the All-Star break, they've won 42 of their last 58, and at 80-48 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 6 games in the AL East.

- Sergio Mitre has started three games against the White Sox in his career and is 0-1, with a 9.00 ERA. He faced them on July 31st of this year and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in just 3 innings of work.

- In 7 starts against the Yanks, Jose Contreras in 2-5, with a 4.20 ERA. He's lost his last five starts against them.

- The Bronx Bombers are a MLB best 43-20 at home.

- Mariano Rivera has converted 36-of-37 save opportunities this season. He's converted 32 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors, and the longest of Mo's hall of fame career.

- Derek Jeter 16 hits shy of Lou Gehrig's all-time Yankee mark. Yesterday he smacked his 22nd career leadoff homer to put himself alone in second place on the Yanks all-time list behind only Ricky Henderson, who has 24.

- Chicago has won three of the five games against the Yankees this season, but the Yanks how won the last two..

Wow, Mitre perfect through three. I would have thought he'd be knocked out of the game by now.

Yea I didn't see that coming... Hey keep it up Sergio.

I think he's making a push for Cy Young. If he throws perfect games in the last 4-5 starts he'll have he might be considered.

Go Bombers.

By the way, Kay needs to shut up about the Jeter bunting thing already. It helped create those two runs. He seems to forget that even the greatest players make an out 2 out of 3 times.

hey guys what have i missed, i've been in enemy territory last 2 days, plus driving, CLEVELAND, ugh, for work/training... watched the game lastnight on espn gamecast,

Greg Cohen said...

Hey Mario,

You heard about the Kazmir trade, right?

Besides that nothing much, Boston seems to be putting a strangle hold on the wild card, which sucks. Yanks maintaining their lead, which doesn't.

Greg Cohen said...

12-up 12-down for Sergio.... there's no way.... nevermind.

Jeter is on some kind of roll, even when he screws up he helps the team.

Very true Anon.

kills me i didn't get to see CC destroy sox lastnight, then to not get the win, sucked more, at least we got the win, I"m worried about AJ & Joba... CC & andy are heating up for the playoffs,

Greg Cohen said...

Joba concerns me as far as the post season goes. He really needs to learn how to pitch, because he's got all the stuff you need. Far too few first pitch strikes and then he seems to relax with two outs and it kills him.

Burnett is a mental patient with a great arm, and we're just going to have to get used to it. He had no-hit stuff the other night but the walks killed him.

ok finally the offense is alive today, but TEX is losing ground in the HR & RBI chase for AL.. come on man,

Greg Cohen said...

OOOOOOOOOOOH what a play by A-Rod!

Mario said...

mitre is dealing, i'll continue thinking what i'm thinking, and try not to jinx it, keep it up SERGIO.... earn urself a bullpen spot in the playoffs

Greg Cohen said...

Oh well, it was highly doubtful anyway. I thought the gods may have been on his side when A-Rod made that play, but Tex couldn't come up with Thome's rocket.

Greg Cohen said...

Wow what a tough break for Mitre. Obviously pitching his best game of the year, and then has to leave with an injury. He should be OK, though. I don't think anything tore or broke.

what specifically happened greg?

Greg Cohen said...

He took a liner off his forearm. It swelled up and he had to leave the game.

crossfire said...

Damn... I just ran in to take a shower and missed it. What happened to Mitre?

crossfire said...

Thanks Greg.

Greg Cohen said...

No problem, CF.

crossfire said...

He pitched a hell of a game.

Which arm was it?

Greg Cohen said...

His right arm, which isn't good, but as long as nothing is broken or torn he should be fine.

crossfire said...

Damn, was hoping it was the left of course.

Greg Cohen said...

Right forearm contusion... Headed for X-rays.

Capone said...

Great game by Mitre. Hope he's ok. How the hell did we lose 3 of 4 to this team?

What a great game by the Yanks. Mitre and Gaudin combined for a one hitter.

By the way, I was hoping Jeter would break Gehrig's Yankee record for hits on the next homestand but at this torrid pace he will do it before then.
