Hey stupid, stop booing A-Rod!

During yesterday's loss to Texas I heard something on my TV that really pissed me off; more boos for Alex Rodriguez. While he may not be putting up a season that some of the spoiled Yankees fans think they deserve, he busted his butt to rush back from a hip injury/surgery, and the team just happens to be 66-33 since then. Oh, and since June 24th he's batting .310/.427/.548 with 14 HR and 40 RBI. So maybe it's time we start cutting the guy some slack.

Booing Phil Coke for his crappy appearance I can understand, but this booing of A-Rod for no apparent reason should have ended a long time ago. How many times do the rest of us Yankees fans have to be embarrassed by the few idiots who make their voices heard by booing the guy. So next time you're at a game and someone near you starts booing A-Rod, turn to them and say, "Hey stupid, stop booing A-Rod!"

I was at the game, and it annoyed me. It wasn't even a ridiculously crucial at bat, and it's not like he's been stinking up the place. Considering the hip problem, he's done a pretty damn good job, and on top of that considering all the steroids issues and Selena Roberts crap, there's very little reason for booing right now. Give the guy a break please. As though it's going to help the Yankees in any way. Put the team first, and try and realize that booing Alex isn't going to help him, nor is it going to help the team.

Everytime I see Arod get booed it pi$$es me off. They are a lot of dumb Yankee fans that just look for any reason to boo him. They don't know why they just do. Who would they rather have on 3rd? And with everything he's been thru and done they still boo him? Makes no sense.

So glad you wrote this post, Greg, as this is also a source of intense annoyance to me. Sure, we'd all like to see A-Rod hit like Albert Pujols but it's been clear for some time now that the guys is nowhere near 100% healthy. Despite that, he has been turning out each and every day. What happened to the one or two days' rest he was supposed to be getting each week? The fact is that the mere presence of A-Rod in the lineup intimidates opposing pitchers and gives the likes of Tex and Matsui better balls to hit. A-Rod has not been the main man this season, playing second fiddle to Tex and Jeter. Despite that, he has kept his mouth shut and become a "team player". Rather than booing the guy, we should be cheering him for pushing himself through the pain barrier in an effort to get the Yanks into the post-season.

Excellent post. The fans who boo ARod are morons.

Rushing back from hip surgery was hard and you can tell he is still in pain.

I for one think that he has been a huge part of the Yankees success this year. Those that don't see that are ignorant.

He deserves to be booed. Are you kidding? He is a drug user and has helped ruin the game!

Anon, do you boo Andy Pettitte?

Regardless, nobody is booing him because of steroids. The booing started long before those revelations came about.

i cant stand it either. Yesterday i was at the game and it killed me to see him ground out to the pitcher and strike out in somewhat important situations. But it killed me even more to see these "fans" booing arod. A fan is supposed to be supprtive, if you put someone down by booing him i dont see how youre a fan.

OMG!! Thank you for such a post Greg. But you know what I wish we had a tracker to see what bloggers on this blog are always smashing A-Rod. I blog here all the time and yes I have seen thoes days in which fans come here and have no clue why, they bash the guy. I am one of thoes that Think A-Rod deep inside him, is a great guy and a good teamate. Like you said this team was in mediocrity the first two months and ever since his return this team has gone from a 3rd place team at one point (yes 3rd place for those who dont remember) to a Red Sox Ass Beatting team. I bet those fan dont remember those days when our asses where been kicked almost every day and we were in 3rd place. So pleaple stop the stupidity and think about the team.

The booing has gotten beyond ridiculous.

Some see it like a checklist at a game, watch BP- check, get a hotdog- check, wait for A-Rod to do something we can boo- check.

Booing A-Rod should not be a stadium experience for Yankee fans.

After A-Rod got injured and needed surgery I knew that he wouldn't be the same Alex Rodriguez that we are used to seeing. It's a good thing that this team is playing great right now becuase that puts a lot less presure on A-Rod. That fan is just a moran.

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday Greg.

What a good point you made Greg. This should be on SportsCenter for what you pointed out.

You're right, he has busted his ass off this year and to come back in such small time he did, that's really amazing.

14 homers, 40 RBI since my birthday? And not even being 100% healthy? Holy crap he's some player.

I hope people give him a big ovation when his name is announced in Game 1 of the ALDS. He's going to be one of the main reasons we are going to get there.

Some Yankee fans are getting too spoiled. A-Rod has had so many clutch hits this year. I guess people are already forgetting his 15 inning homerun against boston.

The fans that were booing a-rod yesterday are the same fans that were booing Teixeira in april.

i got an idea. How about NOT BOOING ANYONE IN PINSTRIPES!!!?? For fuck sake, negative reinforcement is just that....negative. And it usually never works. Think back to when you were a child and you got a D on that one spelling test. Would you have done better next time around if your parents badgered you repeatedly telling you that you are a fuck up? Most likely not.

I completely agree, i was at the game thursday and after his strikeout in the 7th it really surprised me with how noticeable the boos were in the stadium. give the guy a break he cant have a big hit every single at bat

GREAT POST AND GREAT COMMENTS! New York fans are supposed to know sports and appreaciate the game. Appreciate things like like hustle and effort. While the results may not always be there(in baseball you fail 70% of the time and are considered good), but you appreciate the effort and the difficulty of the sport. Both teams, a good play on either side, there was a time when New York fans were known to appreciate the greatness of the game and appreciate great plays and players when they saw it.

Today, performance is tied to dollars. If you make a ton of money, you have no margin for error. A hit every at bat, a home run, like a movie, on demand. It seems that many of today's fan have forgoten that this game is not easy, especially at this level and that each team prepares to win. The other team doesn't roll over. This isn't a video game, and the game is not played on paper according to the stats. Salary dollars do not equate to positive results each and every time.

AROD has always worked hard, hustled, and given the effort. Sure, I would have liked for him to have done more in certain situations, but 6 inches to the left, and the double play ball against the Angeles is a single to left and who knows what happens in the playoffs. I think those who boo players on their team, just show the rest of us they have no clue.
