Jeter Passes Aparicio for Most Hits as a SS

Jeter tied Aparicio with his number 2,673, a single in the first. He then passed the Hall of Famer with an RBI double in the third.

Mark Feinsand reminds us that "Jeter also has 13 hits as a designated hitter in his career, giving him 2,687 overall to leave him only 34 away from tying Lou Gehrig for the most in Yankees history."He should pass that mark sometime before the season ends.

We've been lucky to watch the career of a great Yankee and future Hall of Famer!

I feel sorry for the player that replaces him when the time finally arrives when DJ hangs up his spikes. I hope somehow he passes the Gambler's (and I don't mean Kenny Rogers - the singer) hit record.

If it's a big money free agent then yes I'd feel bad, because he's destined to fail. If it's a homegrown kid the fans will be a lot more patient.

Just remember that they said the same thing about the guy that replaced Mattingly (one of my all time faves) and Tino did pretty well.

It just depends on the player and the Yanks should choose, or groom, that player wisely.
