Something Wrong With Ace?

On July 9, Alfredo Aceves got yanked from the bullpen to make a spot start against the Minnesota Twins. Up to that point, he had been a horse for the Yankees in relief. However, he has not been the same since that start. Since then he has battled a minor injury, seen his use decrease, and just been generally awful. His ERA is 11.11, he's thrown only 8.1 innings, and his K/BB is 1.0. Not good.

Game thread is two posts down.

Nothing personal, but I think the site needs to cut down on the opinion/discussion threads. It used to be just Yankee/baseball news and game threads. Now it seems like 4 out of 5 posts are just random discussion threads.

This is why a discussion board would be a positive, these threads could go there.

Thats just me though.

What's wrong with opinion pieces? Isn't that a key part to a good blog? We still cover all the news. I could understand if we were ignoring news and just posting op-ed stuff, but I still make sure to post everything relevant news wise.

Anyway, Alfredo Aceves' struggles worry me. He's been a huge part of that pen and they need him to sort himself out.

I think he's hurt.

I really hope he isn't, Doug, but you never know.

YP3,

I was wondering, do you think we're missing out on some of the news recently? If that's the case I'll work harder to make sure that doesn't happen.

I was just giving my opinion, wasn't trying to start any trouble. If other people like it, who am I to stop it, I have no problem with how you run this site.

What I was saying was it just seems like, theres a new post, but then its buried by 2 or 3 opinion posts. Its like yeah we all know Cody Ransom sucks and shouldn't be on the team, and Ace hasn't been right, but do there have to be posts about it?

Like I said, not trying to start anything. And for discussions sake, I really hope Ace is just in a slump, but it really looks like hes injured.

Don't worry, YP3, I don't think you're trying to start anything. I value your guys' opinions and am more than happy to hear (read) what you have to say.

That's mostly my fault YP.

I know you're not trying to start anything. Its a comment that I've heard before and I'll try to work on it :)

Off subject but Yadel Marti a defector from Cuba was delcared a free agent today, it's said his stuff can help any team down the stretch and play off run. With the Yankee failing to acquire a pitcher at the deadline..are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?

Very interesting Anon, it better be something the Yanks are looking into. Then again, Hal might be too cheap to do anything about it. I wish George was still running things.

Greg Cohen said...

Here's a little info on his stuff: "Martí is not a hard-throwing pitcher as his fastball ranges around 87-90 mph. He relies instead on a slider, sinker, curveball and control."

That is what Aceves is he is just coming back down to earth. He is not a guy that will maintain a below 3 era for the whole season.

Let me go the other way and say I can get essentially the same Yankee news from a dozen different sites. What I like about various Yankee blogs like PA is the perspective of the writer(s).

This Aceves issue is very troubling. He has been a strong point of out bullpen all year. Maybe he does just need a little rest, he might be a burned out.

Misterd, that's what I was thinking too. One of my problems has always been coming up with original content and now we have three writers who have no problems with that. With that plus all the news I think SIH can be one of the better Yankees blogs out there.
