Yanks Sign Russ Ortiz

According to Tyler Kepner the Yanks have signed Russ Ortiz to a minor-league deal to add some depth in the minors.

He was 3-6, with a 5.57 ERA with the Astros this season. The guy hasn't been the same since 2004, and has also suffered several injuries. Steroids?

Yep, that's about it. Maybe they're thinking of calling Kroenke up and want a replacement. Then again, that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

Kroenke should be up in September and Marte should also be a september callup. Then in September you can rest Phil Coke and have him ready for the postseason.

I wouldn't call up Marte right now and replace him with Melancon. Melancon can go multiple innings. Marte cant be trusted.
