9/11 Minor League Report

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lost to Gwinnett 8-5 in game 3 of their five-game series (SWB leads series 2-1): Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks were defeated by the Gwinnett Braves 8-5 in game 3 of the 1st round of the playoffs. The Yankees own a 2-1 lead in the series with game 4 Saturday at SWB.

PITCHING: Kei Igawa got the start for the Yanks (10-8, 4.15). Igawa faced the Braves twice during the year with no decision. Igawa struggled the 2nd half of the year, but did pitch well in his last regular season start. Yankee pitchers allowed only 1run in the first 2 games, but weren't able to stop the Braves in this game.

Igawa got off to a great start in the 1st inning, striking out the side. He tossed a perfect 2nd inning, adding another strikeout. The Braves got to Igawa in the 3rd inning for 5 runs to take a 5-1 lead on 6 singles, a walk, RBI sac fly, and wild pitch with 2-out and the bases loaded. Igawa's line: 3.0 IP, 5 runs, 6 hits, 6 K---1 walk, 1 wild pitch.

Humberto Sanchez came on to pitch the 4th. He gave up a run on a walk, sac bunt, and rbi single to up the Braves lead to 6-4. In the 5th, Sanchez once again gave up a run on a walk, and rbi single to up the Braves lead to 7-5. 2.0 IP, 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 K--2 walks.

Amaury Sanit came on to pitch a perfect 6th. He gave up a run in the 7th on a walk and single. Another single almost scored another run, but Austin Jackson threw the runner out at the plate. Eric Wordekemper came on to pitch a scoreless 8th. Grant Duff came on to make his AAA debut throwing a scoreless 9th.

OFFENSE: Bobby Brownlie got the start for the Braves (5-2, 4.13). Freddy Guzman hit Brownlie's first pitch of the game for a solo home run to give SWB a quick 1-0 lead. Austin Jackson added a double but was stranded. In the 3rd, the Yanks added 3 runs when Guzman and Jackson walked, and Juan Miranda followed with a 3-run homer to cut the Braves lead to 5-4. SWB picked up another run in the 4th when Colin Curtis walked, Doug Bernier had a sac bunt, and Chris Stewart added a RBI single to cut the Braves lead to 6-5. Curtis had a 1-out double in the 6th, but was stranded. The Yanks stranded 2 more runners in the 7th when Reegie Corona walked, and Jackson singled.

NOTES: Cody Ransom put on the DL with a hamstring injury. Eduardo Nunez called up from Trenton to replace him on the roster. In the other half of the playoffs Durham beat Louisville 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in that series.

Tampa's (High-A) Tampa vs. Charlotte had their first game of Florida State League Championship Series rained out. It will likely be pushed back to tomorrow.Hector Noesi was scheduled to start against Charlotte's Jake McGee.

(Low-A) Charleston (Overall: 74-65; Second half: 35-34): The RiverDogs season in over, they finished in second place in their division, but did not make the playoffs.

(Single-A Short-Season) Staten Island and Lowell had game three of their series postponed (Series tied 1-1). Game will be made up tomorrow in Staten Island.

(Rookie) GCL Yanks (33-28): Their season is over after losing to the GCL Marlins in the first round of the playoffs.
