U guys think girardi is saveing dj for the home stand so he can break the record at home?
I read that Jeter didn't want to do that, but it sure looks that way. I really hope he does it on Monday or Tuesday... mainly cause I'll be there.
I think he should wait. it would be ten times better that way
greg are u goin to both games monday?
Nah, just the night game, and then Tuesday's game.
i think youll see it cinsidering hes cooled off just a bit
Yea, that's another reason why he could be out tonight. He also doesn't have great numbers against Halladay.
o wow i didnt even realize he was out tonight. It could also be to clear his mind just let him relax about. I know its jeter and he says hes not thinking about it but that would get me thinking if i was soon to be the all time yankee hit leader.
It's nice to believe Jeter about not caring about personal stuff, and to an extent I do believe him. But there is no way records like this aren't important to him. If they were, there would be something wrong with him.
this will be the first real yankee moment of the new staduim.
True Anon.
whatever it is as soon as he gets he is sure to get a loonoong standing ovation especially if its at home
gonna sound just like it did when paul oniell retired.
It's kind of amazing when you think about it; most hits ever by a New York Yankee.
Yea greg almost seems like it's not right for some reason.
It's tough for us to realize how good he is because this era is so focused on home runs. Jeter is going to go down as one of the top 3 or 4 shortstops in the history of the game.
its even more amazing when mets fans say reyes is better. I know this is off topic but today i was watchin some of his career highlight videos and i was thinkin how can they say that??? i dont know if u have met fan friends like that but i sure do and it bothers me like crazy
I've heard that stupid argument so many times. Here's the problem with it: Everything they say about Reyes is based on what he could be, not what he is. The truth of the matter is Reyes is a lifetime .286/.337/.435 hitter who steals a lot of bases. Sorry, I'll take the lifetime .317/.387/.459 hitter, who has done it for 15 seasons.
besides that, the clutch factor, the baseball smarts. DO you really think that reyes wouldve thought to make the play on jeremy giambi?
No chance Reyes makes the flip play.
If I was Girardi today is the day to use Melancon & Dunn. I would rest the regular bullpen and use all the callups. And Hughes in the 9th if it is a save situation.
YES needs to fix its radar gun. The thing is too slow. Everybody was throwing 88-91 yesterday.
Hi Everyone. Didn't take long for Halliday in the first. Hopefully, Joba can match him in what innings he will throw, and they can work over Halliday a bit as the game progresses.
Agreed about Jeter versus Reyes, btw.
Joba pulled a Nettles on Scutaro, making him run hard for the out.
Do you guys think that play by Hinske was an error?
Should have been.
someone buy HINSKE GPS, he has no clue where the F__K he is...pathetic
What's up Greg/captain?
Hey Liam, nothing much, just watching the game..... Wow, Pena, come on.
I would teah Miranda to play the outfield. He would be a great bat of the bench next year.
COME ON PENA! Playable.
WTF, boy funny how the ball finds you when you haven't been in a game in a while....
Same here Greg. My first game is tomorrow!
This is where Joba needs to step up and stop the bleeding. It's been his problem lately.
Nice, Liam.
It has been. A ground ball would do it. If theres not an error.
Bases loaded now.
Way to get out of it.
beyond whats going on so far, I hate GIRARDI"s lineup, if he knew how to do a lineup when giving guys a day off,
At least it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Does anyone know why A-Rod is wearing a shin guard?
With todays lineup, i'm surprised that Cervelli isn't in there.
What a garbage inning for Joba. Complete horseshit. 28 pitches is completely unacceptable.
This team might have the best record in the league but come playoff time who the hell is going to pitch?
Right now, they have Sabathia, Burnett's been shaky (and walks too many batters for the playoffs) and Andy Pettitte (who isn't exactly trustworthy either) and Joba? Are you friggin serious?! This team is going to be in trouble with this garbage starting staff taht Cashman has put together. Yes, Cashman deserves credit for some things but....
And, explain why friggin Girardi has Gaudin start the day before Joba does? How dumb. You know Joba is going to need help....
i'm gonna turn this game off & check back, in awhile, bad day at work, i"m already alittle cranky so, i'll try to relax & check back...
Alright Mario, take it easy.
Shutup anon.
See ya Mario.
That pitch wasn't even close.
Maybe Halladay gave all the ups. $20 each.
hey liam , i noticed it also last night, he's been fouling off pitches off his foot latley so i guess he wanted to be xtra cautious
Thanks for clearing that up for me a7tex.
I'm sorry for all the questions, did anyone see Jim Abbots no-hitter on yankee classic today?
No, but I remember watching that game live and just being shocked at what I was seeing. I was 11 at the time.
Cool, I wasn't born at the time.
Halladay is Halladay tonight.
Joba is so lost.
Yes he is. I wounder who is pitching after him?
Joba stinks tonight!
I'm gonna go. I won't be around tomorrow. I gotta game and then I got treatment for the last time. Time flys by.
I might be around in the evening. Melancon is warming.
Later Liam. Have a good game tomorrow.
Thanks Greg. Hopefully my internet won't go out again so I can tell ya all about it.
Halladay perfect through four. Of course he decides to show up tonight. Where was this against Boston the last two times out?
Hey guys. Joba sucked tonight, but the Yanks' defense didn't help in that 2-run 1st either.
Of course Halladay has to return to form tonight when we have Joba opposing him. Hopefully we get to him later on. Last time we faced him he was pitching well but we got to him late and Teix, Damon, and Matsui all hit solo home runs.
We need to start getting men on base. We won't have too many more chances to score if Halladay keeps on rolling.
Hey YB,
Damn it, Matsui just missed that.
Posada ends the perfecto with a walk.
Perfect game over as Jorge walks.
Perfect game over as Jorge walks.
But the no-hitter remains in tact. 3-0 Jays after four and a half.
This Joba Rules thing is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen!! Its ruining him!
Who are we to think Joba will ever be an ACE anyway...so far he has proven nothing and we are gona risk winning just so he doesnt reach his innings limit?? Its garbage and you know it...I guess the Phillies should shut down JA Happ ha?
-Matthew
But the no-hitter remains in tact. 3-0 Jays after four and a half.
The White Sox just took a 2-0 lead on Boston in the second.
Matthew, go look at Happs innings pitched in the minors and you will see why Philly isn't shutting him down.
I hate when pitchers walk in runs.
way to go Pena!
Nice... no-hitter gone.
you people on this site are so ignorent, its amazing! What kind of fans are you? Not every pitcher who doesnt follow innings limits are going to get hurt. Joba may not even be a great pitcher in the first place and a team who can spend money does not have to rely on 1 top prospect in order to win in the future. Joba has been pitched in the majors in 3 seasons and the Yankees are still experimenting with him, first hes a reliever, then hes a starter, then hes a reliever again, now hes a starter, but only a 3 inning starter. I know that if they wouldn't screw around with him he might be pitching better.
Its just amazing you guys are blind to how pathetic this is. There are plenty of people in the media who agree with me!
We have a 3 man rotation right now!
This could tire out the bullpen as well...wake up people!
-Matthew
Nobody has said that every pitcher not on an innings limit will get hurt.
As for their three-man rotation, I don't think it's hurting them. They've won seven in a row and have the best record in baseball. Protecting Joba is hardly hurting them.
If you plan to call people "ignorant", try learning to spell it correctly moron!
Oh... I thought that was the other Anon
Kind of feel the Yanks are dumping this one tonight. I'm not suggesting they aren't trying to win but you need your best lineup against a pitcher of Halladay's caliber. I fully understand that we need to rest players so I'm not going to get too down about it. Probably a good time to do it. But I do feel that using Joba this way is, in a way, an insult to the game. You're either a starting pitcher or you're not. How can a guy really get himself up for a start when he knows that no matter how well he throws, he's not going to be the pitcher of record. Any thoughts?
The bottom line is Joba needs to pitch well whenever he throws the ball, and he's just not. He's been terrible lately.
It's not an insult to the game. The Yankees are trying to do what they feel is best to maintain the health of one of their best young pitchers. You can't blame them for that. If they weren't 7.5 games up and had to win every game I could understand people being upset.
White Sox are beating Boston 4-0 in the 3rd.
Fair comment, Greg. You're right...the bottom line is that he just ain't pitching like he did when he came out of the pen last year. I just preferred the "old" Joba rules where he pitched less often but could stay in the game.
sorry I didnt know speeling was such a big deal when all im doing is make a comment on a baseball blog! but thanks for calling me a moron just because Im upset that Yankees fans somehow can't understand that this Joba thing could hurt us down the line! Oviously I know its not hurting us right now but, its ushally important to have a 4th starter if you get in a tough play off series!!
I thought you were the other Anon Matthew. I was just looking to take a shot at him. It was not an unintentional swipe at you. Sorry about that.
I hate to be captain obvious, but we're getting completely bent.
its all good. didnt mean to be to harsh by the ignorent comment.
matthew
I may be wrong to say this, but with Boston getting pounded this game is fairly meaningless. I really don't care that they're losing.
That dumb ass anon makes spelling comments and I thought I had him in a good one.
I'm a little disappointed it was you. LOL
Seriously.. Halliday pitches like dogshit and then all of the sudden he's back to his old self when he plays us.
Bastard!
Jeter getting rest probably means he breaks Gehrig's record at home. I plan to be there.
I have tix for Monday night but may go Monday in the day too if it's close.
Yeah Greg, I know it pretty much doesn't matter since the Sox are losing 10-1, but nevertheless, it still pisses me off.
Like Bryan, I hate to see a winning streak end in this fashion. Have to say we gave Halladay and Toronto this one. I just hope normal service is resumed tomorrow night.
Eck is going on and on about how Trevor Hoffman is the greatest closer ever and at this rate pitch till he's 50. Um, hello?
Edwar is trash he couldn't pick up Dunn. What a surprise Edwar gave up another walk.
Hoffman basically gave up the ghost in every big game he ever pitched.
