Posada Suspended Four Games, Fined $3K

UPDATE: Posada's suspension was reduced to three games, not sure why, and he will begin serving tonight.

From Mark Feinsand:
Jorge Posada has been suspended four games and fined $3,000 for his role in Tuesday night's bench-clearing brawl between the Yankees and Blue Jays, a baseball source told the Daily News. Toronto reliever Jesse Carlson received the same punishment. It is unknown whether either player plans to appeal.
Well, this was expected. Time for Cervelli and Molina to step up for a few days. Also, he better take the suspension now, and not risk missing the Angels or Red Sox games coming up next week because those are the games they're going to need him.

4 games is not too bad. Jorgie can use a break and rest up.

Good to see Hairston batting number 2 again, sigh. Why would you give Hairston more at bats tonight over Melky, Cano or Swisher?

If he wanted to rest Damon thats fine but he should of played Gardner. Gardner just went 2 for 4 last night and hit a double of a lefty. He has 429 obp off Tallett. Girardi gets way too in love with lefty/righty matchups. Gardner is a young inexperienced player he needs at bats. I dont like having Hairston taking away his at bats.

Tallet is an awful pitcher so it doesnt even really matter though.

I completely agree about Hairston. Makes no sense to bat him second. Girardi really is tempting fate with all these stupid moves lately. You cannot manage like this thing is already wrapped up.

@ Greg

Exactly the red sox are only 5 games behind in the loss column. The worst thing that can happen is those red sox yankee games at the stadium this month become meaningful. The phillies who have pretty much wrapped it up are still playing there regular lineup. It is too early to start doing this stuff. You can start resting players the last week to 10 days of the season.

The yanks lost there last 3 of 4 to toronto and just loss 2 or 3 to baltimore and have a tough westcoast schedule upcoming. You cant give away these games.

But Girardi used both Ransom and Hairston in the lineup because of a lefty. And last year he kept using Betemit against lefties. That is the one thing about Girardi thats drives me crazy.

Again Tallett is a really bad pitcher so it wont make a huge difference. But I dont care if Hairtson hit 4 homeruns tonight it is still the wrong move having him hit number 2.

I don't know if you've been listening to the radio at all, just about everyone is blaming this all on Posada.

I'm not Posada's biggest fan but I hate how everyone is dishing it all on him. To me its a straight 50-50 blame game. Posada should not have reacted like he did but the reaction was incited by Carlson standing where he was.

I was there when that went off and everyone couldn't believe that Carlson was just waiting where he was, he literally watched Posada the whole way around and baited him.

I don't want to sound like a tired old record so I'm glad someone agrees with me about Hairston batting No. 2. I know that Girardi is trying to pack the lineup up with righties but I'm shocked to see this "experiment" continuing. Actually, lefties hit Tallett pretty well. Come to think of it, most people hit Tallett pretty well.

Good grief Girardi, what are you thinking? If anyone can screw up this talented lineup, it's Joe G.

The suspension has reportedly been trimmed down to 3 games. Heard it from Sweeney Murti.

And yeah, this lineup is an embarrassment. Why does Joe think the division is wrapped up? It wasn't when we were 8.5 games up and it's certainly not locked up now that the Red Sox are only 5 back in the loss column. Remember, there is still 2 weeks left in the regular season and nothing is defenite yet.

The suspension for Posada is basically 2 games since he was going to miss tonight anyway with a sore neck. By the way, I hate Hairston in the 2 hole.

Plus I'd rather see Gardner in Center and Melky in left. We should have the a-team out there and beat up on Toronto.

its 3 games because Posadas not appealing, same with Carlson

Joe, Peter Abraham had this update: "Posada and Carlson were initially given four games without pay and a $3,000 fine. Both appealed and it was reduced to three days with pay and the fine."
