A-Rod Rips Ump

From Mark Feinsand:
"It was a ball. I knew it was a ball and when I went inside and confirmed it, obviously, I got more upset. It was a big game for us. We felt like we wanted to get back in a winning form. A 2-2 pitch, bases loaded, it was not a good pitch and he took the bat out of my hands."

Rodriguez said he did not argue balls and strikes from the dugout in the fifth, saying he only told Foster to "keep talking to Moeller." According to A-Rod, Foster and Baltimore catcher Chad Moeller, an ex-Yankee, were yammering during his at-bat.

"I don't argue balls and strikes. I really don't get caught up in that. I don't care for it," Rodriguez said. "No warning, for him to take it into his own hands, with no warning, I thought was very unprofessional."

Foster and the Yanks are no strangers to each other - Foster ejected Girardi in July when the Yankees were upset when Foster called out Derek Jeter stealing July 6 against Toronto. That's the time when Jeter told Foster that he had not been tagged and Foster told Jeter that he didn't need to be tagged because the throw beat him to the base.

"The last time, he told Jeter to get off the field, which I also think is unprofessional," Rodriguez said. "I don't know what his deal is with the Yankees. To tell Jeter to get off the field and to throw me out without a warning…I think in the heat of the moment and not arguing balls and strikes, there should be a little room for error where you can actually argue and take out your frustration and let the game go on."
I think Rodriguez handled the situation pretty well.

As for Foster, he's an idiot. Today just verifies what we already knew.

Have to disagree with you on this one, Greg. Yes, replays showed it was a ball, but only marginally. I've seen pitches further out of the zone called strikes. It was probably too close to take. What A-Rod did was unprofessional and could have cost his team the game. It was okay to have a moan about it at the time but stupidity to carry that argument on from the dugout and beyond. After all, the umpire wasn't going to change the call. I know baseball - like all sports - is an emotional game and the players are not robotss. But players know they can't argue balls and strikes so to get thrown out over it was akin to a kid spitting out his dummy.

Yankee fans say they want A-Rod to be a leader. Yesterday he was.

He got tossed in the process but he said what players have been thinking all season.

The umpires have been bad all year and you can only silently walk back to the dugout or off the field so many times before you have to call out on it.

watch a lot of games & yanks seem to be on the short end of these calls a lot this year, especially when their young guys are pitching. Last monday at 1pm derek took a 3rd strike it was clearly inside. i believe some young umps have something against NY, probably grew up fans of other teams. veteran umps are consistent like ed rapuano and the tall guy who was behind the plate for the george brett pine tar game still umping today, welke? not sure if thats his him, tim something.

Bruce, this has nothing to do with the call itself. He shouldn't have thrown A-Rod out without a warning.
