From
Peter Abraham:
Chien-Ming Wang, who had shoulder surgery in July, hopes to travel with the Yankees during the postseason even through he cannot play.
"This is a great team. We can win the World Series," he said. "I want to see that."
In his first public comments since the surgery, Wang said he hopes to start playing catch again in January and believes he will pitch in the major leagues at some point in 2010. But he realizes that may not be with the Yankees.
Wang had a $5 million contract this season and is eligible for arbitration. There is virtually no chance the Yankees will offer him arbitration before the December deadline. That would leave Wang a free agent.
"I would like to stay in New York," he said. "But I don't know what will happen."
"I think I can pitch again," he said. "I'm going to do all the rehab and get back. I hope it's with the Yankees."
As for the Yankees, they've got more important things to worry about right now:
"That's something we won't even think about until November," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "Those are issues for another day."
If Wang truly wants to remain in pinstripes he should take whatever deal the Yankees give him as long as there are incentives included, that's the fair thing to do. Do you think Wang will pitch again in pinstripes?

I do think he will be brought back. I don't see why not. The guy is a quality starter that just went through a rough patch.
Of course, I wouldn't plan the season around him but he is a great option to have and a fantastic bargaining chip at worst if he comes back healthy.
I like Wang a lot. I would love it for him if he was able to come back to where he was before.
The trouble is that odds are stacked steeply against him. Shoulder surgery for any pitcher is difficult to come back from. 2 shoulder surgeries, well I guess we will have to see.
If I were Wang, I would except a minor league contract from the yankees and try and prove myself. I think the Yankees would do that simply based on his previous service, and the fact he is a product of the farm.
Even if he went out and tried to get a Major league contract, he will
probably be looking at the minimum anyhow.
I really hope for him that 2011 he is in the mix for the comeback player of the year, as the Yankees #4 or #5 starter.
I agree. I think it would be wise for the Yanks to bring him back.
they have taken flyers on a whole lot worse- he has proven when healthy he can win big. Two 19 games seasons in the al east resign him today! Congrats #2; RIP #15
You can never have enough starting pitching. You could sign him to a 2-3 million dollar deal and have him ready to pitch in july/august.
On the credit side, the Wanger won 19 games in 2007 when he was the ace in the rotation and had an 8-2 record in 2008. On the debit side, he has been injured in each of the last two seasons. The fact of the matter is that good pitchers are so hard to come by the Yankees would be stupid not to give him the chance to make a comeback in pinstripes. He's still only 29 and, long term, he might actually benefit from having less miles on the clock.
I think we need to bring him back, Yanks always take flyers on older players coming off injuries, I.E. ( mitre, dotel, ) etc. I think we have the money to bring him back & give him a chance to get healthy & contribute, we can always trade him...
With the potential of a pitcher getting hurt on every pitch, you can't have enough bodies.
Besides, Wang did win one game this year!
Wang won't get more than the league minimum? Wang should take whatever deal they want to give him? Are you guys kidding me?
An MLB pitcher wants to get paid. Period. And the second most winningest pitcher in the bigs from 05-07, with an 8-2 campaign in 08 when healthy certainly will get paid. There was interest in him before the trade deadline, and there certainly will be some if he gets to free agency.
He hasn't forgotten how to pitch. He'll get paid. The yankees will be dumb to non tender him.
I would give him some incentive deal and let him sink or swim when he returns sometime next year.
I'd agree that I'd want Wang back but bringing him back has to be done in a smart manner. If I am not mistaken he might miss the beginning month(s) to the season, if thats the case then he really should agree to taking a minor league contract with a base of 2.25M. He would obviously need to make starts down there, work himself out and see where he is. Once he's called up there should be incentives for 50ip(maybe 250k) 100ip(an additional 250k) and if he reaches 150ip maybe receive another 500k, brining the total value to 4.25M.
But yes, you can never have enough arms, hes proved in the past to be worth the $.
Durden, that's too big of a base. There's a chance he doesn't pitch at ALL in 2010, and most likely not until June or July at the earliest.
The max base I'd offer is $1M. Any more than that is insanity.
I was originally gunna say a base of 1.25M but when I thought of what he did in the past I bumped it up. Either way though I think he'll come back, we are his number 1 choice.
No.
Mike
ME LOVE YOU WANG TIME!!! bring him back
