WP - A.J. Burnett (13-9)
LP - Wade Davis (2-2)

After three ugly the losses the Yankees were able to rebound and end their regular season with a 10-2 thrashing of the Rays.

A.J. Burnett started for the Yanks and looked sharp in his final tuneup next week's division series begins. In 5 innings Burnett allowed one earned run on seven hits, walked one, and struck out three. He had pretty good command of his pitches, and threw 55 of his 84 pitches for strikes.

The offense was kept silent by Rays starter Wade Davis over the first five innings, but would then explode for ten runs in the sixth. Alex Rodriguez smashed two homers in the inning, a three-run shot to start the scoring, and a grand slam to cap off the rally. With the two homers and seven RBI he finishes the season with 30 homers and 100 RBI, which is pretty remarkable considering he missed the first month. A-Rod's first homer also set a new franchise record for homers in a season with 243. He increased the record to 244 with his second and also tied Mark McGwire for 8th on the all-time home run list with 583.

Johnny Damon also had a nice game, going 2-for-4, with two doubles and two runs driven in.

Joe Girardi used five relievers to get through the final four innings and each of them pitched well. They combined to throw four perfect innings and struck out five. Of the five Joba Chamberlain was obviously the one most people were interested in and he looked sharp. He needed just nine pitches (seven strikes) to get through the inning and struck out one. His fastball was sitting at 94-95 and it would appear that he past his test and will be headed to the pen for the ALDS.

The only thing for the Yanks to do now is sit back and wait to see who they're playing. That's because Detroit and Minnesota both won today and will face each other in a one-game playoff on Tuesday in Minnesota. Rookie Rick Porcello will start for the Tigers, and Scott Baker gets the ball for the Twins.

Overall today was a very good day for the Yanks.
