Monday Night Open Thread: Boxing in the Bronx?

Boxing has always had its place in the old stadium, and now the new place may be getting its first big fight. According to Greg Bishop it's possible that the stadium will be host to a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight next spring.
“I get chills just thinking about it,” said Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports. “The reality is there’s only one fight to be made. We’ve waited a long time to get one of this magnitude.”

With the undefeated Mayweather and an international superstar in Pacquiao, the biggest draws in boxing, Greenburg said the bout would deserve a “Super Bowl-type stage.” That presents an enticing option, as early as next May — Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees are interested in hosting a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight next spring, according to a person in baseball who spoke on the condition of anonymity. There have been no formal discussions, and there will not be before an agreement is reached between the fighters, but high-ranking Yankees employees have told boxing officials of their interest.
Even though I know nothing about boxing I like the idea of having a wide variety of events at the new place, it's part of what made the old place as historic as it was.

Tomorrow is the announcement of the AL Cy Young award, do any of you think CC has a shot? I personally can't see how he'd win with the seasons Zack Greinke and Felix Hernandez had, but stranger things have happened.

According to NPB Tracker, Hideki Matsui's marketability in his homeland has gotten a huge boost thanks to his performance in the Fall Classic. Not only has he received eight offers to appear in commercials, but he's also received around 100 requests for television and event appearances in his home country.
