Damon Heading For Detroit (UPDATED)

(Updated 6:46 PM) According to ESPN.com "Johnny Damon has agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with the Detroit Tigers, pending a physical, a league source told ESPN's Karl Ravech." He will take his physical tomorrow.

$8 million? Really? Wow, Boras may be a schmuck but he got Damon a pretty good deal considering all that hasn't happened for him this offseason. I'm pretty surprised the Tigers would go that high, who were they even bidding against?

According to Tim Brown (hat-tip to MLBTR), "Johnny Damon and the Tigers are near agreement, according to sources." He also is reporting that it's a one-year deal worth "more than $7 million", a little million more than the Yankees last offer, which was $6 million for one year. However, the Yankees did offer Damon two-years at $14 million earlier this offseason, which I'm sure Damon would jump at right now unless he actually believes the market will be better for him next year, when he's a year older and spends another year embarrassing himself in left. Oh well, enjoy Detroit, Johnny.
