Is this it for Andy?

During today's post rainout show, Jack Curry was talking to the guys in the booth about a conversation he had with Andy Pettitte. According to Curry, Pettitte made it clear that after the 2010 season he will call it a career. Curry said Pettitte is content with what he's accomplished during his career and that he basically said that everything after 2006 was just icing on the cake since he felt like his career was going to be over after that season.

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'm not surprised to hear this. In fact, I'd be surprised if I heard he was going to play next season.

With a free agent class that includes names like Cliff Lee, Josh Beckett, Eric Bedard (mutual option for 2011), Brandon Webb, Justin Duchscherer, and Carl Pavano (just kidding), so I don't think they'll have too much trouble filling Pettitte's spot in the rotation. Lee will likely be at the top of the Yankees list whether Pettitte comes back or not.

Pettitte leaving would also mean the Yankees might have to put both Chamberlain and Hughes in the rotation, which is probably Brian Cashman's plan anyway.

With this likely being his last hurrah, it will be a season to reflect on what has been a fantastic career for #46. Let's say he wins 12 more games this year and the Yankees win no. 28. That would give Pettitte 241 career wins, 18 postseason wins (most all-time), six championships, and a total of nine world series appearances. If you take out that whole HGH thing you might be talking about a Hall of Fame career. The regular season stats themselves probably don't stack up, but when you add in his postseason resume it makes the discussion a little more interesting.

What do you think? If this is it for Andy, how would you rank his career? (hat-tips to TYU and NYSD)
