Girardi Makes It Official: It's Hughes

According to Marc Carig, Joe Girardi has made it official, and Phil Hughes is the team's fifth starter. He will start tomorrow against the Phillies, which will line him up after Javier Vazquez in the rotation.

Something else also became official with this announcement, and that's that the Yankees totally mishandled Joba. If they were just going to throw him in the pen without giving him a chance to start without training wheels, they should have just kept him in the pen last year and let Hughes build up his innings.

Get ready for the "Hughes Rules".

When asked if this means Joba will be the setup man, Girardi said "you have to earn your spot." As of now I'd be shocked if he doesn't start the season in the back of the pen.
