A Look At How The Bullpen Is Shaping Up

The talk all spring has been who will win out the 5th starter spot. Well how about who will fill out the bullpen? This spring the Yankees have an abundance of arms pitching well. With the addition of Chan Ho Park this bullpen suddenly seems very crowded, and that's even with the losses of Phil Coke and Brian Bruney.

Joe Girardi had this to say of Park's Yankees debut:
“His outing was so short I forgot he even pitched,” Girardi said. “Eight pitches. And that’s the way he’s looked on the side, his live BPs, his simulated (games), he’s looked like that the whole time he’s been here.” (from Chad Jennings)
Park looked great. He only needed 8 pitches (7 strikes) to get out of his 1-2-3 frame. It's already looking like this could be a nice late pick up by Cash.

So let's take a look at how the bullpen is shaping up:

Bullpen Locks:
Mariano Rivera
Damaso Marte
David Robertson
Joba Chamberlain and/or Phil Hughes
Chan Ho Park

Bullpen Probables:
Boone Logan - Has had a nice spring pitching to a 3.00 ERA
Alfredo Aceves - Has proven he can be a valuable long man or middle reliever, or maybe even a starter.
Chad Gaudin - Also can be valuable as a spot starter/long man

Bullpen Outskirts:
Mark Melancon - Has had a wonderful spring (5.2 IP 0.88WHIP and 1.59 ERA) Will most likely see him as a mid-season call up
Sergio Mitre - Seems to be the odd man out , although Girardi likes him so he's never out of the mix.
Royce Ring - Has had a nice spring, but seems to be the odd lefty out with Logan throwing well.
Jonathan Albaladejo - Also in the mix, but has had a horrible spring pitching to a 45.00 ERA in limited innings.

Personally, this is how I think the bullpen will shake out:

Mariano
Joba
Marte
Robertson
Park
Logan
Aceves
