Predicting The Roster

Before any games are played I think it's a good time for my first roster prediction. There are really only three spots up for debate; the final two relief spots and the final seat on the bench. The fifth starter debate, who will play what position in the outfield, and who will bat 2, 5, 6, and 7th are obviously still question marks, but the players involved in those discussions will all likely be on the roster. So with that said, if everyone remains healthy this spring I think this will be the Yankees opening day roster:

Starting Lineup:
Derek Jeter SS
Nick Johnson DH
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Curtis Granderson CF
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Brett Gardner LF

Bench:
Randy Winn OF
Ramiro Pena INF
Francisco Cervelli C
Jamie Hoffmann OF

Starting Rotation:
CC Sabathia
A.J. Burnett
Andy Pettitte
Javy Vazquez
Joba Chamberlain

Bullpen:
Mariano Rivera
Phil Hughes
Damaso Marte
David Robertson
Chan Ho Park
Alfredo Aceves
Boone Logan

Based on Brian Cashman's quote and his ability to play all three outfield positions well, I think Jamie Hoffmann will make the team over Marcus Thames. He's younger, may have more of an upside, plus he's much better defensively than Thames.

With the two remaining spots in the pen I think the Yanks go with Aceves for his versatility and for what he did last year. I also think they take a second lefty. Girardi has said this spring that he likes the luxury of having two lefties in the pen so that's why I went with Logan.

How does this match up with your projected roster?
