Spring Training Weekend Part ll

Well, our Spring Training weekend somewhat washed out on Sunday although the Yanks did have an 8-0 lead after 3 2/3 wet innings. It was a shame as we were just 6 rows off the visitors' dugout and could hear the clang of Robbie Cano knocking mud off his spikes with his helmet. Tigers and Yanks abandoned their original Starter plans of Pettitte vs. Scherzer yet then inexplicably brought both in with the rain pouring in the 3d & 4th innings. Yanks feasted on a couple of Tigers' non-40 roster guys who couldn't find the strike zone in the 1st inning. 6 runs on 3 hits, 5 walks and a HBP.

Best moments of the day:

- During warm-ups bunch of Yanks surrounded Damon and tried to playfully turn him upside down. They all did the glad to see you Man hugs before heading to their respective dugouts. These are the kind of moments that are frequent in sports today with the constant team changes but make the old time players want to barf.

-Damon's 1st at bat lead to a warm welcome and, when he acknowledged the fans and stepped out, to loud standing ovation. There was overheard a great chant (hat tip to Dr. Jack Heda who started it) of "Get A New Agent".

-ARod seemed to spend more time eye-searching the stands for his next Kate Hudson than concentrating on the pitcher during his trips to the on-deck circle. Probably a good signal that Spring Training is a little too long.

-Marte & Mo looked ready for action retiring the Tigers in the 1st & 2d. Pettitte looked good in his 1 inning but hopefully he got a simulated game in somewhere.

-Long-haired Phil Coke did a lot of signing before the game but joked that he'd only sign if the kids knew who he was. He did stay out there awhile as did the Tiger's classy manager Jim Leyland.

Bring on the Season!
