According to Jorge Arangure Jr., the Yankees "have fawned over" Carlos Matias, an 18-year-old pitching prospect from the Dominican Republic. The right-hander is 5-foot-11 and has a fastball that has been clocked in the mid-90s. Arangure goes on to write that Matias could receive as much as a $500,000 to $1 million bonus. It also said in the article that the Diamondbacks are also very interested in Matias.
And get this; last year, he had agreed in principle to a deal with the Red Sox which would have netted him a $160,000 bonus, but after MLB did some sleuth work, they discovered that he lied about his age and identity, forcing them to void the contract with the Sox.
Wouldn't it be great if the Yankees signed him after the Sox got screwed?
