According to Mike Axisa and the SWB Yanks blog, the Yankees have released minor league infielder Chris Malec. Malec, a 16th round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, hit .272/.351/.384 with 9 HR and 69 RBI in 136 games with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In five minor league seasons he hit .285/.380/.392 with 25 HR and 249 RBI in 512 games.
(Updated 11:14 AM) Chad Jennings is reporting that eight other minor leaguers were also released. They include Seth Fortenberry, Mike Lyon, Isaac Harrow, Griffin Bailey, Buck Afenir, Dan Miller, Julian Arballo and Paul Heidler.
