4/17 Minor League Report

================

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (4-5) lost to Buffalo (6-3) 2-0: Box Score -Recap

MONTERO WATCH: Jesus Montero got his first day off of the season. He had caught all but one game which he was the DH so far. In 8 games he’s hitting .273 with 1 multi-hit game. He has 3 extra base hits, all doubles.

PITCHING: Jason Hirsh made his 2nd start of the year. Buffalo threatened in the 1st inning on a single, stolen base, throwing error, and walk that put runners on 1st and 3rd. Colin Curtis made a nice diving catch to end the threat. With 2 out in the 3rd, a single, double, and 2-rbi single by Ike Davis gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead. Buffalo stranded a runner at 3rd in the 4th inning after a double and groundout. Hirsh gave up a leadoff single in the 5th, but then got the next 9 outs in order. He left after 7 innings trailing 2-0, and took the loss (0-2). Hirsh’s line: 7.0 IP, 2 runs, 6 hits, 4 K’s--1 walk. 88 pitches--63 strikes

Jonathan Albaladejo tossed a perfect 9th inning picking up a strikeout.

OFFENSE: Dillon Gee got the start for Buffalo, his 2nd of the year against the Yankees. He shut them out for 6 innings in his first start. He pitched a gem this game shutting out the struggling Yankee offense for 7 innings on only 3 singles by Eduardo Nunez, Juan Miranda, and Jon Weber, and a walk to Colin Curtis. He struck out 8 SWB batters. The only threat off Gee came in the 3rd inning. Nunez had a leadoff single and stole 2nd. He moved up to 3rd on a groundout but was stranded. Curtis had a 1 out walk in the 5th. The Yanks did not have another base runner until Reegie Corona and Kevin Russo started the 9th with walks off Bobby Parnell. Parnell was relieved by Elmer Dessens. Nunez laid down a sac bunt that moved the runners up to 2nd & 3rd. Juan Miranda popped out to shallow center on a very nice over the shoulder catch by Alex Cintron that probably saved 2 runs that could have tied the game. David Winfree flied to center to end the threat and the game.

NOTES: Ivan Nova gets the start Sunday afternoon in game 2 of the 4 game set at Buffalo.... David Winfree had his 8 game hit streak snapped.
