W: Mazone (2-1, 3.68); L: McAllister (0-1, 4.50)

PITCHING: Zach McAllister got the start for the Yanks. He came into the game with a 2.87 ERA. McAllister was in trouble all afternoon as leadoff hitters reached base in 5 of his 7 innings. Lehigh Valley picked up a run in the 1st on a single, stolen base, and rbi sac fly to take a quick 1-0 lead. There was a 1-out triple in the 2nd, but McAllister was impressive getting a groundout and K to get out of the jam. LHV threatened again in the 3rd on a single and walk, but again could not score. McAllister wasn’t as lucky in the 4th inning. 3 singles and a 2-rbi double scored 3 runs and gave LHV a 4-2 lead. In the 5th, John Mayberry Jr. hit a solo homer to up the LHV lead to 5-2. McAllister gave up a leadoff single in the 6th, but Chad Huffman threw the runner out trying to stretch it into a double. He gave up a 1-out single in the 7th and was relieved. McAllister took the loss (0-1). 99 pitches--63 strikes, 8 GO--7 F0. McAllister’s line: 6.1 IP, 6 runs, 10 hits, 3 K’s-1 walk, ERA 4.09.

John Van Benschoten relieved Mcallister with 1 out and a runner on 1st in the 7th inning. He gave up 2 singles that scored another run, charged to McAllister, to up Lehigh Valley’s lead to 6-2. He pitched a scoreless 8th with a single and stolen base.

Amaury Sanit came on to pitch a scoreless 9th inning.

OFFENSE: Brian Mazzone LHP, got the start for LHV. In the 1st inning, Keven Russo had a leadoff single. Red-hot Colin Curtis followed with an rbi double to tie the score at 1. Chad Huffman gave the Yanks a 2-1 lead in the 2nd with a solo homer (2). That turned out to be all the scoring in the game for the Yankees. Mazzone retired the next 10 Yankees before Greg Golsen and Russo singled in the 5th, but were stranded. David Winfree singled in the 6th and 9th innings.

MONTERO WATCH: Jesus Montero was 0-4 in the game. His average has dipped to .255. He was robbed of a hit to deep right field on a great running catch, flied to right again, grounded out to short, and hit into a DP. There were 2 stolen bases against Montero. He’s 0-10 in throwing out runners so far.

NOTES: Romulo Sanchez
gets the start for SWB Sunday, with Dustin Mosely coming off the DL to start Monday, against Lehigh Valley. The Reds AAA team, Louisville visits PNC Field next week with a good chance that Cuban phenom Aroldis Chapman will get a start.
