It was a soggy affair at the stadium tonight, but that didn't stop CC Sabathia and the Yankees from rolling to their seventh victory of the season, a 5-1 win over the Rangers.

Sabathia gave up a run in the first when he gave up a double to Josh Hamilton, a single to Michael Young, and a sac fly to Vlad Guerrero, but from that point on the Rangers had no chance. At one point he struck out six batters in a row and retired 12 in a row. For the game he allowing just a run on three hits and struck out out nine in six innings. The big fella needed just 73 pitches to get through six. Of those 73 pitches, 58 were strikes (79.5%). As you can see from his strike-to-ball ratio, CC was living in the strike zone tonight and had command of all of his pitches. I'm not going to say he was better than he was in Tampa last week, but he was just as good.

Texas' 1-0 lead didn't last very long, as the Yanks were able to push across a run in the first to tie the game. Derek Jeter, who now has a ten-game hitting streak, led off the game with a single, and Nick Johnson walked (shocking) to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Mark Teixeira, who still can't buy a hit, then grounded into a double play, but with Alex Rodriguez batting Rangers starter C.J. Wilson uncorked a wild pitch allowing Jeter to score from third.

The score would remain tied until the fourth when the Yankees loaded the bases with nobody out. After Marcus Thames struck out, Curtis Granderson hit a grounder that was snared by first baseman Chris Davis, but his throw to second hit Nick Swisher in the back and trickled into left allowing two runs to score. I don't think the Rangers would have turned two on the play, but the error really changed the complexion of the inning. Francisco Cervelli was the next batter and he made it 4-1 Yanks with an RBI single.

Jeter made it 5-1 Yanks in the sixth with an RBI infield single before the rains came.

Like Jeter, Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to ten games. This is the first time two Yankees have opened the year with ten-game hitting streaks.

Still not liking that Brett Gardner isn't getting starts against lefties, it can't be good for his confidence or his development, but at least they're winning.

Teixeira is now batting .083 and May can't come soon enough.

It really doesn't matter being that this is just the tenth game of the year, but the win did move the Yankees into first place in the division for the first time this season.

Game two of this series is set for tomorrow afternoon with A.J. Burnett going for the Yanks and right-hander Scott Feldman will get the ball for the Rangers. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m., and the game will be on YES.
