Harper: Trade Javy To The Mets

John Harper of the Daily News writes this morning that the best thing the Yankees can do with Javier Vazquez is to trade him to the Mets. He argues that it could help both sides, and that a move to the NL will allow Vazquez to "go right back to being a dependable starter, if not the Cy Young contender he was last year." He looks at the move as a salary dump for the Yankees, plus "they could wash their hands of what is developing into a major problem."

He goes on to talk about how Mets GM Omar Minaya has always thought very highly of Vazquez, and never wanted to trade him from the Expos when he was the GM there.

For that matter, it's no secret that Minaya has always valued Vazquez highly, and looked into trading with the White Sox for him in recent years, and then last off-season before the Braves dealt him to the Yankees.

A baseball source said Minaya couldn't make the deal with the Braves because he didn't have a highly-regarded pitching prospect to include, as the Yankees did in giving up Arodys Vizcaino.

I do think the Mets would have an interest in him, but I don't think it's time for the Yankees to give up on Vazquez...... yet.

You may be surprised to read that after reading a few past quotes of mine, but as of now I don't think this move makes sense. Vazquez's value is about as low as it can be and while I do think New York, and especially with the Yankees, isn't the best place for him, there is always the chance that he does turn things around.

What do you think? Is it time to give up and see if there are any takers or should the Yankees wait a little while and see if Vazquez can turn things around?
