The Yankees announced that they have acquired Justin Maxwell from the Nationals for minor league right-hander Adam Olbrychowski.
This is strictly a depth move, though Maxwell is an intriguing non-prospect. Maxwell's Major League numbers leave a great deal to be desired, but he is a toolsy sort - he has terrific range in the outfield, a strong arm, good speed and baserunning instincts, and solid pop. His greatest issue has been making contact, which is quite the hurdle to overcome ... though he's still young enough to make some adjustments. I suppose we could say he's Greg Golson with power - which is more than enough to make him a fine fifth outfielder.
To make room for Maxwell, the Yankees DFA'd outfielder Jordan Parraz.
