Hughes to the DL with a "Dead Arm"

From MLB.com:
The Yankees put Phil Hughes on the 15-day disabled list with a case of dead arm on Friday, providing an apparent cause-and-effect case for his 13.94 ERA through three starts.
Veteran Bartolo Colon will take Hughes' spot in the rotation.

...

"Something had to be done," Hughes said. "The arm strength is not there. My arm feels dead. There's nothing coming out. We have to get it right."

The Yankees recalled right-hander Lance Pendleton from Triple-A to take Hughes' spot on the roster. Pendleton was 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA for Scranton.

"We decided it was in his best interest to get him on a long-toss program and see if we can get him out of that fatigue or dead arm," said manager Joe Girardi, explaining the team's rationale for the roster move.
You knew something had to be wrong with him. Hopefully this rest helps and he comes back with the velocity he had last year.
