Pitching coach Larry Rothschild observed Phil Hughes on Sunday during the righty's first long-toss session since going to the disabled list. Rothschild reported that Hughes "had some life" on the ball, manager Joe Girardi said after the Yankees' 6-5 win over Texas. And Cervelli via Bryan Hoch:
...
Hughes will likely throw a long-toss session Monday and will continue them after a day of rest in Toronto. The Yankees play a two-game series against the Blue Jays on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"Larry said it went well. He said he thought [Hughes] had some life on the ball when he was long tossing," Girardi said Sunday. "He'll go with us to Toronto and you'll see him long-tossing as well. Conditions might be a little more favorable inside but Larry thought it went well today."
