Top prospect Jesus Montero will not join the Yankees for Tuesday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, who requested anonymity because the person is not authorized to speak publicly.
Speculation has swirled in recent days about the prized hitting prospect and his chances of earning a call-up to the major league club. Since Sunday, when Jorge Posada appeared to lose his grasp on his part-time designated hitter job, the chatter has gone into overdrive.
But so far, the organization seems more inclined to hold off on a promotion for Montero, who has performed well recently at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
