Yanks Clinch Playoff Spot, Division Could Come Tonight
Thanks to seven innings of great relief, a few clutch hits, and save #603 by Mo, the Yankees will be making their 16th postseason appearance in 17 years. Between the three inning start by Hector Noesi (he was limited to 50-60 pitches) and James Shields rolling along things didn't look good with the Yanks down a run and just six outs left. But Nunez tied things up in the 8th with a leadoff homer off Shields. Then, following a single by Gardner and a walk to Jeter, Cano smacked a 2-run double to deep center. That was more than enough for Mo, who had another easy 1-2-3 save.
The win also trimmed their magic number down to 2, so a combination of a Yankees win and a Red Sox loss tonight would wrap up the division. CC Sabathia will be going for his 20th tonight for the Yanks with Jeremy Hellickson getting the ball for Tampa. Up in Boston, Josh Beckett will face O's right-hander, Tommy Hunter.
