Olney: Yanks will make CC an offer he can't refuse

From Buster Olney (membership required):
Nothing said within the Yankees' organizational meetings altered the team's plan to make CC Sabathia an offer they hope he will not (and maybe cannot) refuse -- an offer that might dwarf those of other clubs by a factor of 30 to 40 percent. Call it the New York surcharge, which will probably be necessary if Sabathia will be coaxed to pitch in the big city.
He also had this to say about Teixeira and Burnett.
The Yankees will be seriously engaged in the Mark Teixeira bidding, but with some limits. There has been speculation during the past year that Teixeira might command a 10-year, $200 million package. But the Yankees might be looking to pay him a little more than half of that, or a deal in the range of six years and $18-20 million a year. There is an expectation within the industry that the Orioles also will make a hard run at Teixeira, as well as A.J. Burnett -- so it figures that the Yankees and O's might be going head-to-head for those two players.
Nothing really earth-shattering here, it just backs up what most of us already believed.

The Orioles are morons if they spend big money on Teixeira and not pitching.

I'm almost thinking that their supposed insterest in Tex (and even Burnett) is simply to drive up the price for who they know will be interested - other AL teams including the Yankees.

It makes no sense for them to after Tex, so you're probably right about them just driving the price up. Peter Angelos has always hated the Yankees.

My ideal summer would be CC, Tex and Lowe. And let's hope for a healthy season.

Although that wouldn't be "ideal" for me I'd definitely be very happy with that too Mateo.

I'm not a big Lowe fan, and I'm not convinced he could still be successful in the AL East. But if they could sign CC and Tex I wouldn't mind him as a no. 4 or 5.

I hate using the word clutch. But I think Lowe has the experience to perform in the big game. And he would come with much less years and far fewer dollars.

Can't disagree with you there.

I just want CC/Tex with some unexpected trade(Nady).

Good luck Yanks. Jobo is a A** hole

Baltimore has no use for Burnett or Teixeira right now.

It sounds like Sabathia will be a Yankee

I only hope the Yanks are flexible with Teixeira. 8 years is the max length I'd go on him. 8/160

Yes, the Os might try to drive the price higher for the Yanks. Their little owner sure hates us!
