New Yankees Movie: "Keeper of the Pinstripes"

From the NY Post:

Also on the film front, actor Josh Lucas said he is thrilled to get the chance to play Thurman Munson in the upcoming film "Keeper of the Pinstripes" that will feature Bernie Williams. Lucas wants to put on about 20 pounds for the role and plans to do some in-depth research. When Lucas brilliantly portrayed basketball coach Don Haskins in "Glory Road" it was Haskins, Pat Riley and Tim Floyd who taught the actor how to act like a coach.

"It's an honor to get this role," Lucas told The Post's Kevin Kernan. "There's a couple of them you get every once in a while, I felt that way with 'Glory Road,' too. Haskins was not as known as Munson by any means, but he had a similar sort of powerful way about him, a really salt-of-the-earth kind of man. I learned so much playing Haskins, and I have a feeling it will be similar with this, too."

...The film is being directed by Robby Benson of "One on One" fame.

In "Keeper of the Pinstripes" the production company is reaching out to James Gandolfini to play the part of Babe Ruth. If he accepts, Tony Soprano would be going from his Gambino-like role to the Bambino.

The movie will be based on Ray Negron's "The Boy of Steel: A Baseball Dream Come True."

It will be filmed inside the old - I guess you can now call it old - Yankee Stadium before and during the '09 season. And according to this article from Newsday Darryl Strawberry will also be in the movie. The article also says that the movie will be released sometime between Christmas '09 and Opening Day in 2010.

Greetings to all fans of,

Keeper Of The Pin Strips...

I would like to be the first one to tell you on a personal basis, that I promise you that this film is my life and passion...

The Director, cast, producers and I plan on making you a film that will complete your set of classic films about America's greatest past time... Baseball...

I am a huge fan of The Great Bambino (Babe Ruth of course), Mickey Mantle, Thurman Munson, Lou Gehrig, and the New York Yankees.

This will be a film will be for old fans, new fans and future fans.. We will represent New York Yankees baseball and their fans to the fullest..

I love baseball in general, but the NY Yankees along with the Boston Red Socks have some of the most incredible moments and stories behind them..

Pirates come in 3rd for me (due to the great Roberto Clemente. A stand up guy and a great player)

Enjoy the Film!!

Best Regards

Anonymous,

Are you in any way related to the production of the film? You say the story is your life, but I thought the story was Ray Negron's life.
