Did the Knicks just help the Yanks?

From Buster Olney:
Sabathia, in the end, may take the largest offer that he will receive -- and in the end, the largest offer will come from the Yankees. But other factors, such as friendships, will be a factor in how Sabathia decides, and the Yankees might have gotten very lucky on Friday. The timing of a transaction in another sport came at a very opportune time for them.

Sabathia developed a friendship, through his years in Cleveland, with LeBron James, as the two became the biggest stars in a small town. They have bopped around New York together in the past, and on Friday, the Knicks made trades that are being viewed as precursors to their pursuit, in another 20 months, of James.

Presumably, at some point, Sabathia and James have shared a conversation about living and playing in New York at the same time -- Sabathia for the Yankees, James for the Knicks. James, as the world famously learned in the playoffs of 2007, is a Yankees fan.
Coincidentally CC Sabathia was actually in Cleveland last night to attend the Cavs - Hawks game. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall to listen to the conversation they had yesterday. Hopefully King James was doing some recruiting for his favorite team. A week ago that LeBron said that CC would definitely end up playing for the Yankees.

I think this will help a lot more than people may think. Players love to play in cities and on teams where they have friends, it's a comfort factor.

I may actually be more excited about the idea of Lebron on the Knicks than CC on the Yanks, but I'll happily take both.

Will this help? I hope so, but you can never tell with these things.

The idea of LeBron on the Knicks makes me very happy. They also freed up enough cap room to sign another one of the 2010 free agents.

There was even one article on ESPN today that said if the Knicks can unload Eddy Curry they could possibly sign THREE of the big name free agents in 2010.

I hope it helps and Olney wasn't just killing time with that column. Will having LeBron in town really make the difference when CC supposedly wants to stay in CA? I can't imagine it would but we'll see.
