Linda Lopez on 1050 ESPN radio just said that if Brian Bruney's injury lingers the Yankees will look to trade for Baltimore's George Sherrill of the O's or Astros closer Jose Valverde. I believe Andrew Marchand also mentioned this, but I did not hear that.
Sherrill is 0-1, with a 2.75 ERA this year for the O's, and has struck out 21 and walked 7 in 19.2 innings pitched.
Valverde has struggled this year going 0-1, with a 5.63 ERA and is on the DL with a right calf sprain, but should return soon.
If I had a choice of the two it would easily be Sherrill. Not only because of the stats and the injury, but because he's used to the American League and especially the AL East.

Why in the world would Baltimore trade Sherill to the yankees i doubt they trade him to us because where in the same division i do see us try to aquire huston street.
You never know, they're not likely to be in the race in a month or so, maybe they'd like to get some prospects for the guy and build for the future.
I don't want a trade. I just want Veras cut and Melancon brought up.
Yea greg that true sherill is a preety good reliever and they would want sum prospect but i really think the yankees should add 2 arms in that pen.One guy that comes to mind that i really like is leo nunez from the marlins i noe he has a high walk total but this kid has a arm i always liked him he looks like hes a future closer.
I'd like one of the two additions to the pen to be Mark Melancon. Line Dane said, he should be brought up.
I don't know much about Nunez, his numbers have been good besides the walks this year. But I'm not sure if the Marlins would trade him. I think they have him under control for a while.
I'm with you greg, Sherrill all the way.
by the way, off days suck!
Jose Valverde will be another disater. Cashman is clueless about pitchers.
Sherrill or Street are who he should be going after.
Street and Sherrill both have pitched in the AL. Valverde is a NL pitcher who has played in small markets his whole career.
I'll take Sherrill, or Street, i guess. Good moves if they don't give up much, but then again it could turn out to be an Eric Gagne w/ the sawx type thing. You never know.
They have a reliever. His name is Joba Chamberlain
leave joba as a starter...i'm not ready to give up on a 23 year old who has 21 career starts under his belt...he's gonna make mistakes...part of the learning process...if not..then we can move him to the bullpen....but i think he needs more starts before we can say he is a failure as a starter...
it's a no win argument though...people will probably stick to their opinions...after a good start it's like...see they should leave him as a starter...then after a bad start it's...they should move him to the bullpen...
Why do the Yankee's need to trade when the problem is pitching management and overlooking talent already there(Melancon!!)? I'm sorry but this organization really does look like it's on auto pilot and it's really just talent getting all these wins lately.
What about if we get Sherill and call up Melancon?
In regards to DeRosa. If we can get him Our best line-up would be without Matsui, having DeRosa play 3rd, and Dhing Arod.
Call up Melancon!
