Yanks, Cano Finalize Deal

The deal has been essentially done for a couple weeks now, but it was finalized today after Cano passed his physical.

NEW YORK -- Robinson Cano and the New York Yankees completed their $30 million, four-year contract on Thursday.

Cano batted .306 with 19 homers, 97 RBIs and 41 doubles last year. He was an All-Star second baseman in 2006 and runner-up for AL Rookie of the Year the previous season. He had been eligible for arbitration.

The deal is potentially worth $57 million over six seasons. The 25-year-old Cano will get $3 million this season, $6 million next year, $9 million in 2010 and $10 million in 2011. New York has a $14 million option for 2012 with a $2 million buyout. If that option is exercised, the Yankees would have a $15 million option for 2013 with a $2 million buyout.
