Today's game against the Blue Jays was rained out, but if you're interested here's what happened today before the rains came.
Johnathan Albaladejo got the start and last only 0.1 of an inning, but that was partially due to the defense behind him. With one on and nobody out Alex Rios hit a ground ball that should have been a double play, but went through Derek Jeter's legs, so instead of nobody on with two outs, it was two on with nobody out. To make matters worse Shelley Duncan threw to the wrong base allowing Rios to get to second. Duncan also committed an error several batters later when he dropped a fly ball that he should have caught. In the end Albaladejo allowed six runs (all unearned) on five hits. ... Scott Patterson relieved Albaladejo and retired both batters he faced. In 6.2 innings this spring Patterson hasn't allowed up a run or a walk, and he's only given up one hit. ... Kyle Farnsworth allowed a hit and a walk in his scoreless inning of work. He was helped out by a diving play in left by Shelley Duncan, who made up for his earlier error.
The Yankees only bat once, and Bobby Abreu walked, improving his spring OBP to .610.
The Yankees next play the Pirates tomorrow at McKechnie Field in Bradenton at 1:05 p.m. Jeff Karstens gets the start for the Bombers. The game can be seen on YES and MLB.TV.
