Remember Home Run Derby? It was a television show from the late-50's that pitting the top sluggers of Major League Baseball against each other in 9-inning home run contests. It was held at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles. The show was produced and hosted by actor and Hollywood Stars broadcaster Mark Scott.
The winner would receive $2,000 and was invited back next week to go up against a new opponent, and the loser received $1,000. If a batter hit three home runs in a row, he would receive a $500 bonus. A fourth home run in a row would be worth another $500 bonus. Any consecutive home runs hit beyond that would each be worth $1,000.
I used to love this show as a kid, I always would watch the reruns on ESPN in the late 80's.
Here's the episode where Mickey Mantle takes on Willie Mays (whatta matchup!).
