The SWB Yanks stayed in first place with a 9-1 win over the Durham Bulls today. The win improves the Yanks record to 8-4 this season.

PITCHING: Dan Giese got the start for SWB and pitched well. In 4.1 IP he allowed just 1 run on 3 hits. The run came in the first on a double, and steal of third, and an RBI single. Giese only allowed one hit over the next 3.1 IP. Giese's Line: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. Giese threw 63 pitches, 38 for strikes.

Scott Strickland relieved Giese in the 5th and got the final out on a groundout. Strickland pitched the 6th, 7th and 8th and only allowed 1 hit and a walk while striking out 5 and picking up the win. The win improves Strickland's record to 1-o on the year. ... Edwar Ramirez pitched a scoreless 9th.

OFFENSE: SWB jumped all over Bulls pitching in the 2nd scoring 8 runs on 8 hits. Shelley Duncan led off with a singles to center. Jason Lane followed with another single. Cody Ransom hit and RBI double scoring Duncan and moving Lane to 3rd. Next up was Nick Green and he singled scoring Lane. Ransom then scored on a wild pitch and Green moved to 2nd. Chris Stewart was next and hit a bunt single which moved Green to 3rd, Following a walk to Justin Christian, Brett Gardner, Bernie Castro and Juan Miranda each came through with RBI singles to extend the SWB lead to 6-1. Duncan, up for the second time of the inning walked, driving in Gardner for the Yanks 7th run. The 8th run of the inning scored on another wild pitch. ... The 9th Yankees run came in the 9th on a RBI double from Shelley Duncan.

NOTES: Steven White will start the series for SWB at Charlotte on Tuesday. ... Shelley Duncan is now hitting .500 with 3 HR and 7 RBI since being sent down.
