4/24 Minor League Report

The SWB Yanks defeated the Buffalo Bisons (Indians) by a score of 3-1 to maintain its 1 game on first place in the Interational League. over Syracuse. SWB plays a 2 game set at Syracuse this weekend. Dan Giese's pitching and Shelly Duncan's bat were the story of this game.

PITCHING: Dan Giese
who's come out of the bullpen to replace the injured Alan Horne in the rotation, made his 3rd start since Horne's injury. He was outstanding again in that role. In 3 starts he's allowed 1 run. He pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing only a single and 2 doubles. Giese had 9 strikeouts and didn't allow a walk. He left the game leading 3-0 and picked up the win 1-0 His ERA is now at 0.86.

Heath Phillips relieved Giese and gave up 1 run in the 7th on a bunt hit and RBI double, making the score SWB 3-1. ... Scott Patterson pitched a scoreless 8th inning. ... Jose Veras pitched a scoreless 9th inning picking up his 6th save in 6 tries.

OFFENSE: Shelly Duncan hit a solo homer (6) to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning. ... Duncan's homer ties him for the league lead. ... He's had 2 homers and 6 RBI in the last 2 games after going hitless in the previous 4 games. ... SWB picked up 2 more runs in the 6th: Chris Stewart walked, Brett Gardner bunt single, Juan Miranda walked to load the bases. ... Duncan came up with a 2-RBI single to make the score 3-0 after 6 innings. Final score SWB 3 Buffalo 1

NOTES: Juan Miranda went hitless to break his 9 game hit streak......Steven White is scheduled to pitch Friday........Buffalo starter Aaron Laffey is being called up to Cleveland. He pitched 3 scoreless innings in a warmup for a start probably Monday in Cleveland against the Yankees.
