4/27 Minor League Report

GAME 1: After being rained out Saturday night at Syracuse, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Syracuse (Toronto) were forced to play a doubleheader. In the first game SWB edged Syracuse 2-1.

PITCHING: Darrell Rasner had another good start going 6 plus innings and allowing only 1 run on 5 hits. He had 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. Rasner kept Syracuse scoreless until the 6th inning when a run scored on a triple and RBI sac fly. He gave up a leadoff hit in the 7th before being relieved. He left the game with a 2-1 lead and got the win. He's 4-0 with a 0.87 era.

Billy Traber making his 1st SWB appearance faced one man and got a strikeout. ... Jose Veras got the final 2 outs for his 8th save after allowing an infield hit.

OFFENSE: SWB scored 1 run in the 1st inning. Nick Green singled, Eric Duncan had an infield hit and Chris Stewart got the RBI on a single. ... In the 5th they picked up an unearned run. Bernie Castro reached after a strikeout and passed ball. Cody Ransom single, Juan Miranda walked to load the bases. Nick Green picked up the RBI when he reached on an error.


GAME 2:
Syracuse forced a split of the doubleheader with a 2-0 shutout win. The loss maintains a 2 game lead over 2nd place Syracuse and the split gains a half game over 3rd place Pawtucket (Red Sox). The SWB record is now at 17-8. The best start in SWB franchise history.

HR: None.


PITCHING: Jeff Marquez coming in at 1-3, made by far his best start of the season. He pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs on only 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. Marquez didn't allow a hit after the 3rd inning. Syracuse scored both its runs in the 3rd inning on a double, sac bunt, walk, error and RBI single giving them the 2-0 win. Marquez took the loss and is now at 1-4 with a 7.01 era.

OFFENSE: Not much to talk about in this game. John Parrish and Mike Gosling held the Yanks scoreless on 4 hits. SWB had only 1 threat in the 5th when Jason Lane led off with an infield hit and Nick Green singled but a DP helped kill the threat. ... Brett Gardner and Juan Miranda had the other 2 hits.

NOTES: Steven Jackson and utility infielder Chris Kunda were called up to SWB Billy Traber was added from NY with Shelley Duncan going to NY. ... Juan Miranda turned 25 on Friday with Scott Strickland turning 32 on Sat. ... Kei Igawa goes Monday with Dan Giese making his 4th start for the injured Alan Horne on Tuesday at Buffalo. It was free taco day at Syracuse to the crowd if Nick Green had a strikeout in the 1st game, but alas, Nick sent the crowd home hungry.
