These are they types of games that remind me why I love baseball. To me there is nothing better than a 1-0 pitchers' duel, especially one where the Yankees come out on top.
With the win the Yankees moved back to the .500 mark with a 13-13 record. Chien-Ming Wang started for the Yankees and was fantastic. In 7 innings he allowed no runs on just 4 hits and 2 walks, and struck out 9 Indians. He had all of his pitches working, especially his sinker and slider. He was also mixing in a split finger fastball to lefties. He threw 113 pitches, 73 of them for strikes. Wang's only tough inning was the first when the Indians had 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but Wang got out of it by getting Victor Martinez to pop out and then striking out Ryan Garko.

Joba Chamberlain pitched the 8th and doesn't seem to be bother by picking up his first major league loss, or his hamstring. He retired the side in order and struck out 2.

Mariano Rivera pitched the 9th and continues to dominate. He picked up his 7th save of the year and like Chamberlain retired the Indians in order while striking out 2. The save was also the 450th of his Hall of Fame career.

Indians starter C. C. Sabathia also pitched a great game, allowed just 1 run on 4 hits through 8 innings while striking out 8. He looks like he's back to form after a rough start to the year (I can't wait to see him pitching in Pinstripes next season).

INDIANS PITCHING

The only run of the game came on a solo HR by Melky Cabrera in the top of the 5th inning. The HR was his 5th on the season tying him for the team lead with Jason Giambi. Last year Cabrera only had 8 homers all year.

The Yankees did have another chance to score in the top of the 6th when Derek Jeter led off with a double, and moved to third on a ground out by Bobby Abreu, but Sabathia was able to strike out both Alex Rodriguez and Shelley Duncan to get out of the inning.

INDIANS HITTING

By the day was not all good news as the Yankees found out that they may be without catcher Jorge Posada for an extended period of time. Posada has a muscle tear in his shoulder. He will be examined by Dr. James Andrews later this week, and may need surgery. The Yankees will call up minor league catcher Chris Stewart to be Jose Molina's backup.

The Yanks look for a split tomorrow in the series finale. Mike Mussina gets the start for the Yankees, and Aaron Laffey goes for the Indians making his 2008 debut. First pitch is 7:05 p.m., and the game can be seen on YES and ESPN, and heard on WCBS 880.
