Chien-Ming Wang got the start for the Yankees and as the title says he was masterful. He only needed 93 pitches to put away the Red Sox tonight in a complete game, 2-hitter. Wang walked none, struck out three. The only blemishes were a solo HR by J.D. Drew (that should have been caught), and a bunt single by Coco Crisp. Just a couple stats to look at: David Ortiz: 0-for-3 and a K; Manny Ramirez: o-for-3 with 2 K's. Both had hit over .500 against Wang prior to tonight's game. The evolution of Wang continues.
"This was the kind of game I wanted," Wang said. "It was my best game."

RED SOX PITCHING
The Yankees scored their first run of the night in the 5th on a RBI double by Jose Molina. Molina currently is tied for the league lead with six doubles - I know, I'm shocked too. That was the only run they'd score of Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz who pitched a very good game. ... Jason Giambi's solo HR off Mike Timlin in the 7th gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead. ... The Yanks scored another run in the inning with a little small ball (it's about time); Molina doubled, then Alberto Gonzalez bunted him over to third. Then Melky Cabrera hit a sac fly to score Moline. ... In the 9th the Yankees scored their fourth run with even more small ball. Gonzalez doubled, Melky laid down a sac bunt to move Gonzalez to third. Bobby Abreu then plated Gonzalez with an RBI infield single. The two times they played a little small ball, they scored a run each time.

RED SOX HITTING (there wasn't much)
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Chien-Ming Wang (9 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K)
A very impressive win for the Yanks tonight, the only negative is they're still not hitting with runners in scoring position, but that will come.
Game two of the three game set is tomorrow afternoon at 3:55 PM. Mike Mussina goes for the Yanks, with Josh Beckett going for the Sox. The game can be seen on FOX, and heard on WCBS 880 and XM radio.

Small ball won it for us.
Sure did.
Wang helped too.
