Yanks Lose Second Straight to the Rays

The Yankees fell to the Rays 6-3 today, dropping their record on the year to 2-3.

Andy Pettitte got the start for the Yanks and was OK. In five innings he gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks, while strike out three. Pettitte was let down by his defense a couple times today; in the third inning Shelley Duncan threw the ball into left field trying to force a runner at second, an error led to the first two runs. Then in the 5th, Jonny Gomes hit a three-run homer that just got over the wall in left, the ball probably could have been caught by Hideki Matsui, but he's a disaster in left field. Thank God Melky comes back tomorrow.

Brian Bruney
came into the game in the 6th and was impressive, throwing two perfect innings and striking out four of the six batters he faced. Ross Ohlendorf then came in and immediately gave up a home run to Willy Aybar, his first homer since 2006. But Ohlendorf recovered and retired the next six batters he faced in order.

RAYS PITCHING

Edwin Jackson
started for the Rays and was very good, only allowing one run in his 6 innings of work. The Yankees only run against Jackson came in the 1st inning, when Johnny Damon scored on an Alex Rodriguez double.

The Yankees had a chance to blow this game open early when with a 1-0 lead in the 2nd, they loaded the bases with only one out and the top of the order coming up, but Johnny Damon popped up to very shallow center and Derek Jeter struck out to end the threat.

Their next scoring opportunity came in the 8th when the Yankees loaded the bases again, this time with nobody out. This time they were able to score, when following a Robinson Cano strike out, Jorge Posada singled in two to cut the Rays lead to 6-3, but that was all they would get because Hideki Matsui struck out, and Shelley Duncan grounded out on a fielder's choice.

That was also all they would get for the day, because in the 9th Troy Percival retired the Yanks in order.

You do a great job with this Greg. I have no idea why my name says Bob.

Thanks.

You'd have to type in "Bob" for your name to show up as Bob.

And he made a stupid comment about Snakes on a plane...

That was kinda funny, though. He and Kenny were really hammering that movie.

I never saw it so I don't know how good or bad it was.
