5/5 Minor League Report

The Charlotte Knights (White Sox) snapped the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 5 game win streak with a 5-0 shutout. The loss drops the 1st place Yanks record to 22-10 on the season.

PITCHING: Dan Giese made his 5th start out of the bullpen for injured Alan Horne and for the first time ran into some troubles. Giese only gave up 1 run in the 3rd inning on a double and triple, but wasn't as sharp as in previous starts. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th. Giese's line: 6.0 IP, 1 run, 5 hits, 4 K's and 1 walk. His era is at 1.38. The loss evened his mark at 2-2.

David Robertson made his AAA debut pitching a scoreless 7th allowing an infield hit and walk. In the 8th Robertson gave up 2 runs. A single and intentional walk followed by a grounder to 3rd baseman Eric Duncan who threw wild to home scored both runs making the score Charlotte 3-0. He was relieved by Steven Jackson who got the final out of the 8th. Jackson gave up 2 runs in the 9th on a walk and 2-run homer making the final score Charlotte 5-0.

OFFENSE: After sweeping a 4 game series from Durham and scoring 63 runs, SWB couldn't muster any in this game. It was the 4th shutout they've had this year. ... SWB had 7 hits and 4 walks and left 11 men on base. 10 runners were left on base in the first 6 innings.. They had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 5th when Wilson Betemit walked, Jason Lane singled and Eric Duncan walked, but couldn't get a run across.

Wilson Betemit went 1-4 with a single and walk. ... Jason Lane had 2 singles and a walk. ... Matt Carson - 2 singles. ... Greg Porter doubled and Nick Green added a single. ... Cody Ransom and Chris Stewart each struck out 3 times.

NOTES: Ian Kennedy makes his first AAA start of the year Tuesday.
