5/7 Minor League Report

The AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees defeated the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) by a score of 5-1 behind Steven White. The win raised the 1st place Yankees record to 24-10 on the year.

PITCHING: Steven White pitched 6.2 innings of 2 hit shutout ball and picked up the win to raise his season mark to 3-1. He lowered his era to 2.68. The only downfall was the 4 walks he issued. White had 3 strikeouts. White stranded a runner on 3rd base in the 1st inning after a single, stolen base, and throwing error on catcher Chris Stewart. ... In the 5th he gave up a double and again stranded the runner at 3rd. White left the game after a 2-out double in the 7th leading 5-0. ... White threw 97 pitches--53 strikes. 6 groundouts---10 flyouts. White's gone at least 5 innings in 15 of his last 16 games.

Billy Traber got the final out of the 7th inning. Traber gave up the only run to Charlotte in the 8th on a single and double making the score SWB 5-1. It was the first run Charlotte scored off SWB pitching in the last 16.2 innings. Traber had 2 strikeouts in the inning. ... Scott Patterson pitched the 9th. He gave up 2--2 out singles but worked out of the jam.

OFFENSE: The Yankees broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Brett Gardner walked, moved to 2nd on a groundout, and scored on an Eric Duncan rbi single. ... In the 2nd, Greg Porter hit a solo homer for his 1st of the year giving SWB a 2-0 lead. ... SWB broke it open in the 4th inning after 2 out... Chris Stewart doubled, Bernie Castro walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up to 2nd and 3rd. Brett Gardner drove them both in with his 2-rbi double. ... Alberto Gonzalez drove Gardner in with his rbi single.

NOTES: Alberto Gonzalez back from NY after a month, started at shortstop. The Yanks optioned Chris Kunda back to Tampa. ... Jason Lane made his 2nd start in a row at 1st base for the injured Juan Miranda, out with a shoulder injury. ... Tomo Ohka started for Charlotte and was charged with all 5 runs in 5 innings and took the loss. He's 0-6 on the year. ... Jeff Marquez gets the start Thursday in the series finale.
